It has been a long time

since our last entry. I was on the Explorer of the Seas from Dec. 12 - 21 to check out the ship. It is a magical vessel complete with an ice skating rink, basketball court, mini-golf range, rock climbing wall, four restaurants, a movie screening room, conference center and a shopping mall. If that isn't enough there is a full gym and spa with wet and dry steam rooms, hot tubs, pools, a disco and so much more.

So many ways to experience this cruise but what better way then to have 200 Nubian's traveling with us. Taking this journey solo made me appreciate even more how wonderful the Nubian Dreams experience is. We encourage you to act now to secure your cabin on our next Nubian Dreams Cruise. The more people that attend the better it will be.

As many of you know this blog is mostly to announce specifics of the upcoming Nubian Dreams Cruise, however, on rare occasions we will spotlight topics of interest to our visitors. During our many seminars during the Nubian Dreams Cruise I this past October, we focused on networking, personal responsibility, media matters and other issues. Well this week in television has presented two examples of what we discussed and how it works. First is the responsibility we all have to work together and to network to make things happen and the second shows the pride we feel we it manifests itself.

The first program I saw was CNN's Heroes where individuals that made sacrifices for others. Small contributions that turned into big movements. The replay is on tonight on CNN. Check your local listing for this truly inspiring program.

The second was the joy watching Barbara Walters interview with the President Elect Barack Obama and his wife Michelle. Again, we should take pride in witnessing this historic event. We, the people, made it happen. If you missed the airing last night you can view it online now by clicking here.

It is finally here. After reviewing over 15 hours of tape shot during the Nubian Dreams Cruise I event on the Carnival Miracle the final project is magical. Derron Cook of Motionphics Studios traveled with the group and recorded many of the magic moments. This video has so much it is like watching a feature with bonus clips from Alyson Williams, Tammy Peay, Christopher Alan Graves, Kevin Anthony and the Nubian Dreams slideshow. The DVD also has a slide show for the upcoming Nubian Dreams Cruise 2. The quality is outstanding but YouTube compresses the video so don't judge from that. Videos are available for sale for $35.00.

This has been a record week.

A brilliant young man named Barack Obama was elected to become the 44th President of the UNITED States of America. So many lessons to be learned. A great campaign, community involvement, the power of the Internet, a little money from allot of people goes along way, perseverance. He won't change things we will.

The Nubian Dreams Cruise I Reunion Party - Charles Sims, talked during the cruise about the importance of promoting the NDC2 cruise in small groups. Letting NDCI cruise guests be our ambassadors, spreading the word. Charles didn't just talk the talk...he walked the walk and opened his home to 4o people who came, saw, and many signed up for the next one. The food was excellent, the drinks were plentiful (thanks guests), the apartment was beautiful and again the guests were wonderful. Thanks again Charles.

The Nubian Dreams Cruise I video, produced by Motionphics Studios, was completed and was scheduled to be shown during the Reunion event, however, the A/V duplication house had problems and couldn't deliver on time. They are being shipped tomorrow. Derron did a wonderful cut and I am sure people will love it. We hope that everyone will order one and not bootleg them. He is a small businessman. Proposition 8 was passed in several states. Wow. Read up and write someone. On the same day we elected the first African American President of the USA the rights of LGBT people were snatched away. Amazing. So many African Americans voted for this proposition it is time to make our views known. If we can't have our rights then you can't get our money. That goes for churches too in my humble opinion. For a different perspective on this issue read Keith Boykin's Daily Voice and Jasmyne Cannick's Blog.

Every once and awhile a special talent comes on the scene. Ms. Tammy Peay is one of those people. Known for her quick wit, her comedy is universal. In the tradition of Richard Pryor and Bill Cosby she does it all. Tammy has several shows that she performs for various audiences. She can be as dirty as Red Foxx or clean enough for a middle school class. In this clip, Ms. Peay performs on the Carnival Miracle ship for the Nubian Dreams Cruise I group. Because of the adult content restrictions of the cruise line she had to do the clean version and it worked well. Look out for Tammy on Ellen or Leno. There are very few true divas left. Nubian Dreams was fortunate enough to have the wonderful talents of Alyson Williams, "First Lady of Def Jam", to entertain us. Not only did Ms. Williams perform on the main stage as a special guest of Mr. Christopher Alan Graves and the Carnival Orchestra but she did an exclusive 90 minute concert just for us. It was an amazing adventure. Unlike most celebrities she mixed and mingled with us. Her insight on the Media Matter's panel gave a look into the other side of the business that most don't see. Thanks Alyson for making our first journey so special. We love you.

Thanks so much to our Nubian Dreams Guests for their support. As you know the offer to sell Sun Passes to non-Nubian Dreams guests was based on availability. We are happy to report that all of our guests have purchased the Sun Pass. Carnival Cruise lines has been nice enough to offer these special meeting rooms for our events, however, the space is limited and capacity is strictly enforced.

To accommodate those that did not get a Sun Pass we have limited space for our events in San Juan and in St. Thomas.

Updates re: Nubian Dreams Cruise I

We are getting close to the first Nubian Dreams Cruise Event and there are a few questions that we are getting frequently so we thought we would address some of them here.

Q: Can I use my cellphone on the ship?
A: Once we depart the New York City port. TURN YOUR CELL PHONE OFF!!!. Once we hit international waters you will be charged most likely for every call, voicemail and text that comes in if your phone is on. Take it from us, we learned the hard way. You should check with your cell phone provider to see if you are covered in San Juan and St. Thomas. Most likely you are. Better be safe than sorry.

Q: Are there theme parties on the ship?
A: Carnival prohibits theme parties since there are children and others on the ship. There are two formal nights where people are asked to dress up for the formal dinners. If you don't have a tux and don't want to buy one you can rent it on the ship. If you prefer to wear a nice suit or a dress you won't be put out.

Q: Is there a charge for the Bon Vonage Party on Oct. 7th in NYC and what are the drink prices?
A: No the party is free to everyone over 21 years old and we will be inviting non- Nubian Dreams guests as well. The prices vary on the drink, however, there will be a vodka drink special for the first hour.

Q: Is it too late to order an official t-shirt?
A: No, you still have a few days to place your order. Pre-orders are $15.00 per shirt but they will be more on the ship. Limited sizes will be available on ship at a price of $20.00

Q: What time should I arrive at the ship?
A: We were told that they will start boarding at 12:30pm. That is subject to change like everything else. Please be on board in time for the Nubian Dreams orientation at 2:30pm. The ship is schedule to depart NYC at 4PM.

Q: I am coming in from the Philadelphia, PA area. Is there any special transportation available.
A: Yes, promoter partner Khris McCants is arranging transportation for his guests from Philly to the ship on the day of departure. Email Khris or call him at 215-313-0814 if you are looking for a ride.

Q: Where do I pick up my Nubian Dreams Sun Pass?
A: Once you board the ship go directly to the City Room to pick up your SunPass, Event Guide and gift bag courtesy of Bleu Magazine.

Q: What if I want to book excursions at the ports, when do I book them and with who?
A: We have planned our events in St. Thomas and San Juan so as to allow time to do other excursions if you wish. Our tour operators in the aforementioned companies have offerings as do Carnival. Consult your schedule and decide where you want to go.

Q: When will I get my ticket to board the ship?
A: Everyone was sent an email two weeks ago with their booking number and cabin number as well as instructions on how to complete their boarding information. If you have not completed the online registration on Carnival.com please contact James Saunders at 917-816-3577 immediately.

Q: Will non-Nubian Dreams guests be able to purchase a "Sun Pass" on the ship?
A: Sorry...Sold out but tickets are available for the Sunset at Soleil Event in San Juan and for the Island Beach Party in St. Thomas.

Q: Is the food free on the ship?
A: Yes food is free except for the "Supper Club" on the ship. Carnival dictates the specialty restaurants not Nubian Dreams. Reservations are required and a fee is charged.

Q: How soon can I reserve my space on the Nubian Dreams Cruise II?
A: Visit the www.nubiandreams.com website and it the cruise tab and fill out the reservation form for NDCII.

Special Announcement for Nubian Dreams Guests

It's almost time to cruise. By now you should have received your booking number and cabin assignment. This note is to clarify your check in instructions. What you need to do is go to the website provided in your letter. Add the information included in the letter and fill out any information missing or incorrect.

Troubleshooting:

Click on your name once you enter the site. If there is an incomplete next to your name, no worries, click the fun pass link and verify all information.

They will ask you for your passport info, check your birth date and emergency contact.

You will also be asked to put in your credit card for incidentals and gratuities. As you recall from previous correspondence the suggested gratuity covers the cabin staff, dining staff and others. They will bill your sign and sail card $10.00 per day. That is more than reasonable for the level of service you will receive. If you purchase gifts, drinks or pictures on board it will be put on your sign and sail card and it will be charged to your credit card, or you can pay by cash, at the end of the cruise.

This has been a very busy week for me. Not only is my real estate business jumping...yes even in Manhattan but we produced two events this week.

First we want to thank all of the guests of the "Hip Hop in Harlem" event. Another amazing turnout of a variety of invited people who showed up to support the Ali Forney Center for gay & lesbian homeless youth.

If you were not able to attend you can support this worthwhile organization that works so hard to make sure that many of the these homeless teens have somewhere to live with dignity. Donate here.

Terrance Dean was on hand to read a passage from his book "Hiding in Hip Hope..." and he sold and autographed his book. He raffled off one book for a lucky winner. The event was hosted at the N Boutique located on 116th Street in Central Harlem. This high end duplex boutique with a outdoor patio is owned by three African Americans.

We were honored by the presence of Singer/Actress/Songwriter Alyson Williams who raffled off two tickets and drinks to her weekly Tuesday show "Alyson Williams & Friends" at Ashford & Simpson's Sugar Bar on 72nd Street in NYC. Donations came from a variety of giving individuals: The Spirit of New York offer two tickets to their nightly dinner cruise, New Concept Travel donated a $500.00 travel voucher, Nubian Dreams resident massage therapist, Mkono, offered two free sessions, fire island blackout offered a 60 minute massage from "I've Got Your Back" Therapeutic Body Massage Company, Walker Communications offered up two tickets to the hot Broadway production of Laurence Fishburne's
"Thurgood"at the Booth Theatre 222 West 45th Street/Shubert Alley (bet 7th/8th Ave), James Saunders offer two tickets to his upcoming "White Party Moonlight Cruise" on August 1 and we also had a Nubian Dreams Cruise Sun Pass up for grabs. All that for just $5.00

The beverages were provided by JTE Spirits who served an interesting cognac and a mix of wine and cognac that we delicious. JTE Spirits is an African American distributor. The buffet was prepared by the chef magic of Kazan who donated her services to this humble endeavor. Rod Patrick Risbrook was our videographer for the evening. We will posting clips on You Tube soon. The night after was the homegoing celebration for Kevin G. Mason who was a well loved member of the community. I was asked to produce the services and the wake and tried to make sure he had a tribute that reflected the man. The services will posted on You Tube soon for all of his friends that didn't even know he passed. Kevin was only 54 and just dropped and passed on in a lobby of a building. Goes to show how fast we can move on. It's best to let the ones you love know your feelings before it is too late. The family refused flowers and requested people send money to the Ali Forney Center in Kevin Mason name. I salute the family for that gesture.

Finally I got to relax last night and stumbled on to the sneek peak of the new Usher CD, Here I Stand. This is one of the best CD's I have heard in years. My brief review of the CD will be posted on an upcoming GBM News edition. Stay tuned.

She will be performing a song on the main stage of the Carnival Miracle with the full orchestra during the amazing Christopher Alan Graves show during the Nubian Dreams Cruise. We met Christopher last year when James and I went on the Songmaster Cruise to Panama and Costa Rica. He blew us both away. I have worked Vegas, Atlantic City and Tahoe for years with major superstars in my younger years. We I saw Christopher it reminded me of all the grand productions I worked on. His show was about Sammy Davis and Frank Sinatra complete with old slides and films. It was wonderful. Christopher invited Alyson to perform a number for the whole ship during the Nubian Dreams Cruise. That is one show you don't want to miss.

Today was D day for our cabin selections. What that means is that we had to tell the cruise ship how many quests we were going to be hosting and put up a sizable amount of money to back that up. Now that that is done we are happy to say we have reserved a few more cabins to accommodate the latecommers. For those that have not reserved their space on this fantastic voyage there is still time but we only have a few left. We have been promoting this cruise for over 7 months now. Today alone we received 20 inquiries. Don't miss out because you think there will be a cabin waiting for you next month. We doubt it.

The fun part begins for us now. Here is what has been happening.

-The Sun Passes have been selling well boosted by the concert of Alyson Williams, the parties, the land events, our host comedianne Tammy Peay, the seminars and the HBO film festival. The beauty of the islands we will be visiting is breathtaking.

-Nubian Dreams is participating in the Hip Hop in Harlem benefit on Wednesday, May 21. Along with author Terrance Dean and the N Boutique we will be raising funds for the Ali Forney Center that provides shelter for homeless LGBT youth. Will Nubian Dreams help me find a roomate? Yes

Is this an all gay/lesbian cruise? No, we will have events by and for us in addition to the Carnival entertainment.
Will there be parties and events just for us? Yes with the purchase of the "Sun Pass"
Are there discounted prices online for this cruise? Well there are discount brokers offering low rates for this sailing but while investigating we found that their prices are actually higher for lesser cabin categories. They don't advertise the government fees and fuel surcharges.

Can non-Nubian Dreams guests buy the "Sun Pass"? Perhaps but only if there are still "Sun Passes" available after all Nubian Dreams guests have the opportunity to purchase them. Passes go on sale to non-Nubian Dreams guests after June 1, 2008

Will cabins be available after July 1 the final payment deadline? It is doubtful and if there are they will be extremely expensive. Cruise vacations work differently then land vacations. People book months in advance and the Producers of the Nubian Dreams Cruise do not warehouse cabins. If you are seriously considering traveling with Nubian Dreams you should make your commitment now.

The Nubian Dreams Story

Every event has a story. The Nubian Dreams Cruise is no different. For years James Saunders and Laurence Pinckney have been getting requests to do an event on a cruise out of NYC. That is easier said than done. In the fall of 2007 they decided to throw caution to the wind and give it a try. It had been two years since the last and original Dominican Island Heat and one year from Bahian Heat and three years since the last Black Pride NYC event that they produced. On each event the same challenges presented themselves; Major sponsors who were willing to provide funding were hard to come by because most believe that the African American LGBT market is serviced from the general LGBT and also the African American markets are covered. We have tried to explain the benefits of specifically targeting us (African American LGBT's) and giving us special attention. Fortunately HBO continues to show support for our events as does several media outlets like Next Magazine, Go Magazine, Bleu Magazine, GBM News and Clik Magazine. Along with our promoter partners and affiliates the word is out yet that leaves our biggest challenge - getting people to commit to the event EARLY. Of all the events we have done this has been the fastest seller, however, we need the rest of the 50 cabins to sell out before May 1, 2008. That will leave us free to focus on the special programming we have in store for our guests.

This sailing on the Carnival Miracle is selling faster than all others. The cruise ship would be very happy to pick up some of the cabins we are currently holding so that they could sell them to their other guests at a premium. We don't want that to happen so we encourage everyone who says they are going to make the reservation today by making the initial deposit of $400.00 via mail or online. Don't wait any longer. In the next installment we will talk about the wonderful programming during the cruise for the "Sun Pass" guests. Here is a sneak peek. The Nubian Dreams team is proud to announce the release of the "Sun Pass" for the Nubian Dreams Cruise departing NYC on October 8th, 2008 en route to San Juan, PR, St. Thomas,Virgin Islands and Tortola, British Virgin Islands and returning to NYC on Oct. 16th, 2008. The "Sun Pass" is an optional program that will take place during the Carnival Cruise. We are excited to feature a special concert by the incredible entertainer, Ms. Alyson Williams as well as three on board parties with well known DJ's playing a variety of music, a seminar series coordinated by Ifalade Ta'shia Asanti, the HBO Film Festival, the Boom @ Banana Party in St. Thomas at a spectacular villa overlooking Megan's Bay and a trip to the Soleil Beach Club just outside of San Juan. All of this for the incredible low "early bird" price of $160.00 for registered Nubian Dreams guests. Each guest is emailed instructions for payment. All others will be able to purchase the Sun Pass after June 1, 2008 if available. All sales are final and programming is subject to change.

What has Alyson been doing lately? She's been performing in Las Vegas and Europe to keep her chops up and is currently in the studio working on multiple albums. (I heard some of the tracks and believe me it is HOT!)

- Jetted over to Englewood, NJ for the tribute to the legendary Clyde Otis. Stellar performances by our own Alyson Williams, Ray Goodman and Brown and Debra Cox. Backstage we talked to all our old friends and also saw songwriter Gordon Chambers.
- Tomorrow is a day that might make history. Can't wait to see what happens ... also tomorrow check out this worthy event if you are in the Big Apple.

The Movement event is being held in New York City to kick off the Hope's Voice International campaign in South Africa and Swaziland. A Movement event will take place in each country the Does HIV Look Like Me? campaign launches in 2008 including Cambodia, Cameroon, India and Mexico. The international Movement events are done in collaboration with the country campaign hosts and celebrates the campaign and recognizes the ambassadors. The Movement events will take place in Johannesburg, South Africa on March 22nd at Constitution Hill and in Manzini, Swaziland on March 29th at the Global Village. Thanks to everyone that has come out to the Nubian Dreams Lounge series in New York City and those who partied with us at the Nubian Dreams Cruise presents "Return to Paradise" at the Winter Explosion.

We have five goals in mind for the Nubian Dreams concept. We want to bring together mature members of the same gender loving community and their friends to network, enjoy talented entertainers, artists, party and introduce guests to the Nubian Dreams Cruise Experience. If you like the lounge you will love the cruise. Good people, Good Food, Big Fun, Relaxation and God's Beauty. Cruising is such a wonderful experience and thanks to fellow promoters like Ebony Pyramid, Songmaster, Bess Knowing and others we will bring our 30 years of producing events to the sea. Each day will be different with new events and surprises. Sound good? Reserve Now.

Making It Happen
How we do we do it? Call us crazy but most of the businesses that launch such lofty events either have trust funds or sponsors to foot the initial bill. We have neither. Just commitment from our small team, sponsors and friends. These megaships demand a financial commitment upfront as do all the venues, designers, talent, printers and foot soldiers. Unless you rent the entire ship, producers continue to have to manage cabin inventory. When the price of the ship cabins go up we have to pass it on to the guests. It is vital that guests sign up early in order to maximize our negotiation position with the cruise ship to provide the best experience for our guests.

The corporate sponsors, with few exceptions do not take our demographic seriously. Please acknowledge those that do. Rarely will you find events like black prides, winter explosion (15 years) or Miami Sizzle to name a few with any big name sponsors. Why? Perhaps because we don't demand it. Perhaps promoters can't guarantee what the sponsor needs. Attention and sell through is what they want. This has to change because we (the community) deserve it. We spend money worldwide and are as a rule loyal to their products.

Now it is harder than ever to get any support. We are very much appreciative all of our sponsors, affiliates, promoter partners who have assisted us in getting the word out. That is a big thing because today many companies have disbanded their African American marketing departments and the African American LGBT community never has gotten the corporate support it deserves. Why? In the words of one marketing executive who could not participate confided that "the company already has them (meaning us).” Many companies are choosing to focus on the every growing Latino market." Wow? Right?

After producing parties and events for over 30 years, the producers of Nubian Dreams continue to prove themselves over and over again to potential guests, sponsors, venues, artists and others. Putting on events like the Nubian Dreams Cruise, The White Party Moonlight Cruise, Dominican Island Heat, Bahian Heat and other African American events is always a challenge. Without corporate sponsorship to back such commitment, it is from the immediate assistance of graphic & web designers, photographers, media sponsors, promoter partners and people like you that make these events possible.

Obama's message of YES WE CAN is important for all of us to embrace. We are powerful people and spreading the word and communicating with producers and sponsors goes a long way. During the Nubian Dreams Cruise and Lounge events we have a wonderful opportunity to get together and share experiences. The parties, forums, films, entertainment and workshops offer the opportunity to explore other places.

What we ask you to do to help us make this a very special adventure is act now by making a reservation. We have planned for 400 people and although we are half way there we need everyone to get on board before the price increases. What are the typical Nubian Dreams guests like?
There is no such thing as a typical guest on the Nubian Dreams Cruise, which will make the experience so much fun. Our guests range from their 30s to retirement age and beyond. They will come from all over the US and the world. Their interests and experiences are as varied as the gay & lesbian community overall. Some guests are bringing their children and straight friends. Community is what it's all about at Nubian Dreams, so wherever you are, you'll feel at home. Remember this is not an exclusive LGBT cruise. Nubian Dreams will reserve a number of high quality cabins on the ship. That being said the opportunities are endless in meeting all types of people.

Do I have to have a great body to fit in on a Nubian Dreams Cruise?
Very funny. Seriously, while we have some great bodies in our brochure and website (remember it IS marketing!), Nubian Dreams is really all about being yourself and feeling great about who you are. Whatever shape you're in, you're going to feel right at home on Nubian Dreams. We promise.

Are women welcome on Nubian Dreams vacations?
Absolutely. Women have been an integral part of all of the JS Marketing Group & Zenbizness events for the last six years. We expect that women will represent about 40% of our guests. We have planned some separate events for men & ones for women. See the Sun Pass Page.

Is there a minimum age?
At this time, the minimum age for our guests is 18. Guests between 18 and 21 must travel with a companion over the age of 25, staying in the same stateroom. Drinking age is 21.

Is it easy to connect with others on a Nubian Dreams Cruise?
Meeting new people is the most valued part of the Nubian Dreams experience for most of our guests. I'll be traveling alone. How does that work?
Some of our guests will travel on their own, so we make it easy and affordable with our roommate share program. If you would like to share a room, we will attempt to find a roommate for you at no additional charge. Roommates are assigned by smoking preference; share rooms are available in the categories listed on each program and are subject to availability. Cruise staterooms are subject to a 100% surcharge for single occupancy. Availability of single rooms is limited.

Are the staff members of the cruise lines or resorts gay-friendly?
Yes. We work very closely with the cruise and tour companies to insure that their staff members welcome Nubian Dreams guests just as they do everyone else. Actually, most staff members request to work our weeks because the group is so much fun. You can rest easy.

What is included in my Nubian Dreams Basic Package?
Virtually everything is included in our cruise: meals, Carnival’s entertainment, most sports with instruction and activities.

What is not included in my Nubian Dreams Basic Package?
Drinks, Tips and Land Excursions, Airport Transfers and the optional “Sun Pass.” Our Nubian Dreams “Sun Pass” will be an additional charge. It will include special events onboard the ship as well as some activities in some Port’s of Call. The details of the events tailored to the needs of our “Sun Pass” holders.

What is not included in my Nubian Dreams Cruise?
The things that are not included in the Nubian Dreams vacation are few and far between. Optional excursions, optional specialty restaurants, some sports, bar charges, spa services, telephone calls, and shop purchases can usually be charged to your room and settled upon departure.

Why is the “Sun Pass” not available now?
After doing several trips and International events we have learned a lot. Nubian Dreams is very conscious of keeping the price down for its guests. Depending on how many guests book the cruise through the Nubian Dreams the Sun Pass will be tailored to fit the group. Although the “Sun Pass” is optional and non-Sun Pass holders will be welcome to attend some events the cost will be much more expensive per person. Once we have finalized our contracts with the outside vendors we will post the price online. We want it to be affordable for all.

Why is it important that we book through Nubian Dreams and not direct with the ship?
You have heard the saying that “there is strength in numbers” well it is so true. The Nubian Dreams team will be available to answer questions, offer excellent customer service, plan and execute details of your vacation. If you choose to purchase directly from Carnival you will respectfully not be offered the services that Nubian Dreams will provide to their guests. In comparing Nubian Dreams to other cruises please keep in mind that we advertise prices which include taxes and port charges. The price will also vary by the length of the cruise and ports of call. Be sure to add on any taxes and other fees to the prices you see advertised on other sites as well as check out the type and level of cabins. If you calculate the prices correctly you will be assured that Nubian Cruise package is an excellent package.

How does Nubian Dreams assign rooms/cabins to guests?
Reserving early gets you the best selection of rooms. Cruise staterooms are assigned at the time of receipt of second deposit or $400.00. We make every effort to honor special requests, subject to availability and prior requests. The initial deposit locks in your price and cabin category.

What are the accommodations like?
Nubian Dreams uses only the high standards for rooms throughout. You can learn more about the specific accommodations in each price range by checking out the descriptions on the website, viewing the promo video or in our brochure.

Can Nubian Dreams help me save on airfare?
Our travel agent will make every attempt to help you secure low fares to and from NYC. Be sure to inquire when making your reservation. An additional fee may apply.

Is smoking permitted on Nubian Dreams vacations?
Smoking is permitted only in designated areas on Nubian Dreams Cruise. Most of our restaurants are designated non-smoking.

Can Nubian Dreams handle special dietary needs?
Our cruise lines and resorts will make every attempt to accommodate dietary needs and restrictions. Please advise us of special needs at least two weeks prior to departure.

Do I need a visa or passport?
A valid passport is required for all travel. Citizens of other countries may require a visa. For UK and other European passport holders please check for visa requirements with your embassy. Your passport should be valid for several months following your trip to avoid any potential problems. All documentation is your responsibility so please make sure that everything is in order before your departure..

When will I receive my travel documents after booking?
Your travel documents will be mailed to you approximately three weeks prior to departure. Once final payment is received you also will have the option to download your documents direct from Carnival online. In addition, we make as much of the pre-departure information available on the Nubian Dreams website several weeks prior to departure. If you provide an e-mail address to us at the time of booking, we'll send your documents and other information to you electronically (when possible).

What are my payment options?
A deposit must accompany all reservation forms, with an additional payment due April 1, 2008 of $400.00. Full payment is due by July 1, 2008. We accept checks, Visa, MasterCard, American Express and Discover cards.

Does Nubian Dreams have a monthly installment payment plan?
Yes. Nubian Dreams also offers a flexible payment options that lets you pay for your vacation in easy affordable way. The initial non-refundable yet transferable deposit is $100.00 for double occupancy non suite cabins. Suites, triples & quads require a $400.00 of which $100.00 is non-refundable yet transferable. All guests are required to make an additional payment of $400.00 prior to April 1, 2008 and the final payment by July 1, 2008. You may mail in additional payments as you wish. You will be sent a receipt of payment and balance due once check has cleared.

What is your cancellation policy?
Our cancellation policy is detailed in our terms and conditions.

Should I buy trip insurance?
Yes. You're spending hundreds of dollars for your vacation and a few extra dollars will protect you from emergencies. Most policies offer a waiver of all pre-existing medical conditions, and cover most unexpected occurrences. There are many types of travel insurance, AIG Travel Guard , Carnival Cruise Protection Plan or Travelex. Check with your own medical insurance company to see what they will cover outside of the USA.

As we all get ready for the holidays we thought it is time to wish you Season's Greetings. It has been a busy team as we ready for 08 and our Nubian Dreams Cruise. Here are some updates we think you should know about.

Carnival Cruise reports that as of today over 1500 guests have registered for the voyage. Remember family that we are not the only ones on this sailing. Don't wait, make your reservation now.

The triples and quads are no longer available for category 4A and 4B cabins. There are still some available but our allotment are gone. Please contact us immediately if you want a triple or quad. Remember that we need all of the parties at the time of booking and each person is required to make a $400.00 deposit. $100.00 of that deposit is non-refundable.

The Party has Begun

The night we have been waiting for is here. Tomorrow as you know is the launch party for the monthly Nubian Dreams Lounge at Taj 48 W. 21st. Street in New York City. Here are the new developments since my last post.

We are proud to support the MCCNY Homeless Youth Services organization and Sylvia's Place for our first Nubian Dreams event. This group who works with MCC Church to provide much needed shelter for homeless gay and lesbian youth in NYC. These are the kids that no one seems to want. Sylvia's place takes them in. Since tomorrow event is free we will be suggesting a $5.00 donation be given to this worthy organization. Representives will be on hand to gratefully receive it. If you can't make to the event please check out the website and give what you can. Click here to make a donation. You will be blessed. As a extra incentive to give the amazing massuer Mikono will be on hand to give free mini massages at the club to those who give a donation of $15.00 or more to the Homeless Youth Services group.

Mkono takes his job seriously and treats both men and women with respect and works to get all the kinks out. Mkono will be setting shop up on the Nubian Dreams Cruise. Important news for Nubian Dreams guests. If you have registered with Nubian Dreams for the cruise and received a coupon from Carnival because you were a past guest please forward it to us before Dec. 20th so we can send it on to Carnival for your credit. Check the coupon to make sure it doesn't exclude guests and that it is within the expiration period.

Some other tidbits;

* Some of you have been asking about a payment plan. We have three payment plan set up for you. The first is the initial deposit of $100.00 non-refundable or $400.00 (of which $300.00 is refundable based on the terms outlined on the Nubian Dreams website. Bother deposits will lock in the price and cabin category, however, the $100.00 deposit is only valid for double occupancy cabins with the exception of suites. Singles, Triples, Quads and suites require the $400.00 deposit. The reason is that Carnival has a limited about of Triples and Quads so only when Carnival gets the deposit for each person in the Triple or Quad cabin will they reserve and hold the room. The suites and single occupancy cabins are also demand. These two categories also require the $400.00 per person deposit.

This is a golden time for James where the wisdom of life comes together. With 30 years of experience developing parties, trips and events for same gender loving people he continues to seek new opportunities. A testament of his contribution can be seen from the thousands of people who have supported him from the barbershop parties to Black Pride to the White Party Moonlight Cruise and now with his new partnership - the Nubian Dreams Cruise & Lounge.

It is with great pride that James & Laurence welcome you to the Nubian Dreams Lounge. Each month will will produce a different kind of experience. The elements of the lounge are entertainment, networking, music, spoken word, comedy, charity and a overall good time. Bring your business cards and a great attitude. Getting together a group of this size is a complicated process that never ends. Not only do you have to negotiate to get the best cabins at the lowest price possible but you also have to bid for rooms to host your events. Since none of the African American LGBT groups have been able to book the entire ship yet it is often about the numbers to the cruise ships. Those with the most people get the best time slots and the best rooms. The reason we like to see the early bookings is that it give us more power to negotiate with the cruise line. Again we want to thank all of you who have already booked and ask those of you who are waiting to jump in...the water is just fine. While most of you will be waking to the wonderful smells of the Thanksgiving feast cooking, James & I will be on a plane to Fort Lauderdale. We will be going down for a site visit on the Carnival Miracle. Although we would rather be spending time with our loved ones it is important to put the final touches on our adventure so that we can offer you the details of our amazing "Sun Pass" in mid December.

Our day will start early on Friday as we board the ship and meet with the group coordinator to preview all the cabins we have ordered as well as to select the meeting rooms for our many events. Since the Nubian Dreams event is not the only event on the ship during those eight days we must vie for the best of everything. There will come a time in the near future when we will be able to charter a entire ship for our adventure but right now we must make sure that our guests have all the comforts of home with a splash of adventure.

We are very fortunate that we have sold so many cabins this quickly. Thank you. People seem to understand the importance of getting their deposits in early not only to save money but also to guarantee the type of cabin they want. New York is a very desirable port since so many guests can drive and park instead of flying to the ship. This is a huge advantage to the travelers and they are snapping up cabins left and right. Carnival has already raised the prices twice and we are sure that more increases will come soon. Our goal is to get as many from our group to reserve now. Remember that the only way to guarantee the cabin price is to get your $100.00 non-refundable deposit in and to select your cabin type.

As you know by now, the Nubian Dreams Cruise is going to be something special. Not only do we have a beautiful ship-the Carnival Miracle- to transport us to wonderful ports of call in the Caribbean, we will also have the best group of Gay, Lesbian, Bi and Gay Friendly people traveling with us 9 magical days. Our ports include New York City, San Juan, Puerto Rico, St. Thomas & Tortola. We will depart New York City on Oct. 8th, 2008 and return to New York on Oct. 16, 2008.

We recently had the pleasure of going on the Songmaster Cruise 8 day cruise to Panama, Mexico and Costa Rica. During our trip it became clear that what is most important is the fellowship between people. Folks came from all over the country and shared their experiences with each other. The programming was secondary. This year's the host was the legendary Rayceen Pendaravis.

As most of us know if you are over 35 and grown& sexy there are not many places where we can be together. James & I met film producers, lawyers, judges, sanitation engineers and many more positive progressive individuals. Well next October, we are calling Black G&L Cruise month. Black and Latin LGBT people will have three wonderful adventures to choose from for their vacation. Ebony Pyramid will be going to the Bahamas on their annual Columbus weekend 3 day cruise leaving from Ft. Lauderdale, Songmaster will be covering the Mexican Riveria departing from San Diego, CA on his annual 8 day cruise and we are proud to launch the Nubian Dreams Cruise out of New York City. Until the point that we have more media outlets that help to get the word out to you, it is up to each of us to get the information out. We are just doing our part. We could sure use your help.

Now some might say why are we advertising the other cruises? Because it is always good to have choices and we appreciate the fact that guests will chose where they want to go. We know that the Nubian Dreams Team has a track record of producing spectacular events over the years and now we will transform the sea with similar programming.
